Words that work – effective copywriting and editing for industrial companies
To be clear: This is not about factual texts such as a technical documentation of all product features or operating manuals. This is about advertising and marketing copy. Writing or editing copy for industrial companies is often time-consuming. After all, the content must be technically correct while convincing from a sales point of view. To this end, sales and marketing must coordinate closely with technical subject matter experts.
Usually, there is a lengthy discussion about how much technical detail is allowed or required. The same applies to the use of technical jargon. In addition, copywriters and editors must not only be proficient in communication, but also have a sound technical understanding. A rather rare species.
I am a representative of it.
If you market products that require explanation and are looking for qualified copywriter or editor with a proven technical background, get in touch. I will be happy to support you. By editing or writing copy for your portfolio that drives results. By “translating” complex technical matter into simple, easy-to-understand words.
And your readers will eventually become your customers.
Questions and Answers
-
1. HOW MUCH DOES EDITING OR COPYWRITING COST?
Not surprisingly, it depends on the type and scope of the work. I charge a fixed hourly rate with proof of time for full transparency.
As a rule, costs are manageable and often lower than those for in-house resources. As a solopreneur, I don’t charge any overhead costs.
To be able to make you an offer, please tell me in advance what type and quantity of copy you want me to write or edit. We can easily clarify this in a call. Alternatively, please send me an excerpt or a briefing for the copy you would like me to write.
In any case, please remember: Even a small budget can make a big impact. -
2. WHAT ABOUT THE TECHNICAL EXPERTISE?
I worked for 15+ years in international companies that develop, produce and market technology. Hence, I can familiarise myself quickly and comprehensively with even complex technical matters. The advantage: Although I am not familiar with your products and solutions in detail, the outside perspective allows me to focus on the essentials. That’s why I consider myself a mediator between your subject-matter experts and your readership.

3. HOW TIME-CONSUMING IS THE COOPERATION?
The better and more detailed the briefing, the faster and smoother the process. Regular coordination is important to me—especially with more extensive work. I am happy to adapt to the working rhythm of you or your team. Usually, with good preparation, we don’t need much time and meet online. With timely feedback on my drafts, we quickly achieve the best result for you.

4. HOW LONG DOES THE EDITING/COPYWRITING TAKE?
It depends on the amount and the type of copy to be written. Simply tell me by when exactly you require the result. I can then confirm this deadline or propose an alternative date.

5. HOW DO I HAVE TO DELIVER MY COPY OR COPY DRAFTS?
Do you already have existing material for me to work or build on? Great. Then it’s best to send me an MS Word® or PDF file. I can make the corrections and edits either in track changes mode in Word® or add comments to the PDF file.

6. DO YOU WORK WITH OTHER SERVICE PROVIDERS?
Of course, I will work with your photographers, graphic designers, and printers to ensure the best possible results. If you already have service providers on hand, all the better. I will also be happy to put you in touch with experts with whom I have worked successfully and in a spirit of trust over the years.
